Important Union Cabinet decisions on 4th July
Renaming of Agartala Airport, Tripura as Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya Kishore Airport, Agartala. Accession to WIPO Copyright Treaty, 1996 and WIPO Performance and Phonograms Treaty, 1996. Renewal of MoU between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India & Saudi Organisation for Certified Public Accountants. MoU between India and the United Kingdom on cooperation in the sphere of Law & Justice and establishing a Joint Consultative Committee. Extension of Scheme of Recapitalization of Regional Rural Banks up to 2019-20. Creation of one post each of Vice-Chairperson and Member in the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis. DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2018.
RBI grants the licence to Bank of China to set up the branch in India
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued the licence to Bank of China to launch operations in India, official sources said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a commitment to Chinese President Xi Jinping to allow Bank of China to set up branches in India when they met on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Qingdao of China.
UNESCO to set up Gaming Design University in Andhra Pradesh
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) will be setting up a ‘Design University for Gaming’ in Visakhapatnam. UNESCO delegation on 4th July entered into an agreement with Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) for the establishment of ‘Gaming Digital Learning Hub’, following which they met with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Piyush Goyal launches the Coal Mine Surveillance & Management System (CMSMS) and ‘Khan Prahari’ App
Union Minister of Coal, Railways, Finance & Corporate Affairs, Shri Piyush Goyal launched the Coal Mine Surveillance & Management System (CMSMS) and Mobile Application ‘Khan Prahari’ developed by CMPDI, Ranchi a Subsidiary of CIL and Bhaskaracharya Institute of Space Application and Geo-informatics (BISAG) at a ceremony at, New Delhi. The basic objective of CMSMS is reporting, monitoring and taking suitable action on unauthorized coal mining activities.
CSC SPV, HDFC Bank sign MoU to support financial inclusion in rural areas
CSC SPV and HDFC Bank on 4th July announced the signing of an agreement to enable three lakh Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) of the common services centers to operate as banking correspondents of HDFC Bank. The MoU signed between MD HDFC Bank, Aditya Puri, and CEO, CSC SPV Dr. Dinesh Kumar Tyagi in the presence of Minister of Electronics & IT Ravi Shankar Prasad and Minister of State for Electronics & IT S.S. Ahluwalia, is expected to be a game changer as it would significantly contribute to Government’s objectives of enabling Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of various schemes.
Nagpur set to host Maharashtra Legislature monsoon session after 47 years
Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra, is set to host the Monsoon session of the state Legislature today after a gap of 47 years. This will be the fourth time that the monsoon session of the state Legislature, normally held in Mumbai, will take place in Nagpur, which has been hosting the winter session. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hosted a customary tea party for political parties on the eve of the session, which will conclude on 20th of this month. According to an official of the Vidhan Bhavan, the monsoon sessions of the state Legislature were earlier held in Nagpur in 1961, 1966 and 1971. As per the Nagpur Pact-1953, one session of the state Legislature to be held in Nagpur every year.
Payments Council of India appoints Vishwas Patel as its new chairman
Payments Council of India (PCI), an apex body representing the companies in the payments and settlement system, has announced the appointment of Vishwas Patel, CEO of Infibeam Avenues, as its new chairman. It has also announced the appointment of Loney Antony, Managing Director, Hitachi Payment Services, as its new co-chairman.
Major General Jose Eladio Alcain of Uruguay will be Head UN Military Observer Group in India, Pakistan
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed a veteran Uruguayan Army official as head of the United Nations mission tasked with monitoring the ceasefire line between India and Pakistan. Major General Jos Eladio Alcain of Uruguay will be Head of Mission and Chief Military Observer for the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP). He will succeed Major General Per Gustaf Lodin of Sweden, who will complete his two-year assignment this month.
Sports Authority of India will now be Sports India: Rajyavardhan Rathore
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Rathore on Wednesday announced that the national sports body, Sports Authority of India (SAI), will now be known as ‘Sports India’. The decision came after the meeting of the governing council of the national sports body, where some major steps were taken keeping in view the betterment of sports in the country.
