PM MODI, MOON INAUGURATE WORLD’S BIGGEST MOBILE MANUFACTURING FACTORY IN NOIDA
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will jointly inaugurate the world's largest mobile factory in Noida on Monday. The manufacturing plant set up by electronic giant Samsung will be producing 10 million units of mobile phones per month by 2020, reported UNI. The opening of the plant is expected to give a big boost to Modi's flagship 'Make in India' programme.
The 35-acre Samsung Electronics facility at Sector 81 in Noida, Uttar Pradesh was one of the first electronics manufacturing facilities set up in the country in the early 1990s. The plant first started manufacturing TVs in 1997. The current mobile phone manufacturing unit was added in 2005.The company is currently making 67 million smartphones in India and with the new plant being functional, it is expected to manufacture nearly 120 million mobile phones.Samsung has two manufacturing plants -- in Noida and in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu -- five R&D centres, and one design centre in Noida, employing over 70,000 people and expanding its network to over 1.5 lakh retail outlets.
GOVERNMENT DECLARES 6 EDUCATIONAL ‘INSTITUTIONS OF EMINENCE
The Government has shortlisted Six Institutions of Eminence (IoEs) including 3 from Public Sector and 3 from Private Sector. An Empowered Expert Committee (EEC) in its report recommended selection of 6 institutions (3 from public sector and 3 from private sector) as Institutions of Eminence. The details of these Institutions are as under:
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Karnataka
2. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Maharashtra
3. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
Jio Institute (Reliance Foundation), Pune under Green Field Category
2. Birla Institute of Technology & Sciences, Pilani, Rajasthan
3. Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka.
The HRD Minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar has said that this is a landmark decision and goes far beyond graded autonomy. It will ensure complete autonomy to the selected institutions and facilitate them to grow more rapidly. At the same time, they will get more opportunity to scale up their operations with more skills and quality improvement so that they become World Class Institutions in the field of education, the Minister added. Each public Institution selected as ‘Institution of Eminence’ will get financial assistance up to Rs. 1000 Crore over the period of five years under this scheme.
17TH WORLD SANSKRIT CONFERENCE KICKS OFF AT VANCOUVER IN CANADA
Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar will inaugurate the 17th World Sanskrit Conference in Vancouver, Canada. More than 500 scholars and delegates from over 40 countries are participating in the five-day event. They will present papers on various subjects. An official release said, there will be a special panel discussion on over a dozen topics like - History and Education of Women in Vedic Literature, Sanskrit Buddhist Manus, introducing Bhagavata Purana Commentaries and research on the Gargiyajyotisa. The Ministry said, the purpose of this conference is to promote, preserve and practice the Sanskrit language all over the world by the people.

DIPA KARMAKAR CLINCHES THE GOLD MEDAL AT GYMNASTICS WORLD CUP
India's premier gymnast Dipa Karmakar clinched a gold medal in the vault event of FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin in Turkey. She returned to action after nearly two years of lay-off due to injury. The 24-year-old from Tripura, Dipa Karmakar scored 14.150 to win gold. This is Dipa's first medal in a World Challenge Cup. She had topped the qualification also with a score of 13.400. Dipa has also qualified in balance beam finals by finishing third in the qualification with a score of 11.850.She has been included in the 10-member Indian gymnastics team for the upcoming Asian Games.

INDIAN LIFTER BAGS BRONZE MEDAL IN JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Indian lifter Jhilli Dalabehera bagged the bronze medal in the 2018 IWF Junior World Weightlifting Championships at Tashkent. Jhilli Dalabehera lifted 167 kg (75 kg + 92 kg) in 48 kg to finish third on the podium, according to Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) secretary general Sahdev Yadav. She is the second woman lifter after Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (in 2013) to win a medal in the Junior World Championships.
INDIA BEAT ENGLAND BY 7 WICKETS IN 3RD TWENTY-20 TO CLINCH SERIES 2-1
India beat England by 7 wickets to clinch the three-match series 2-1 in Bristol on Sunday. Chasing 199, India rode on Rohit Sharma’s ton and Kohli’s 43 to match the win. India restricted England to 198/9 in 20 overs and India need 199 to win this decider. England started the proceedings in an aggressive manner as Jason Roy and Jos Buttler put on 73 runs in first 6 overs. Roy went on to score a half-century before getting out to debutant Deepak Chahar. India and England are now scheduled to play three-match ODI series and five Tests.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni completed a coveted double in T20 internationals, becoming the first cricketer to take five catches in a match and also reach 50 scalps in the shortest format. The 37-year-old Dhoni achieved this feat in his 93rd T20 International. His tally of catches has risen up to 54.During the England innings, Indian wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni also became the first wicket keeper to complete 50 catches in T20Is by taking five catches.
MARK ZUCKERBERG BECOMES THE 3RD RICHEST PERSON IN THE WORLD
Facebook Inc. co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has overtaken Warren Buffett as the world’s third-richest person, further solidifying technology as the most robust creator of wealth. Zuckerberg, who trails only Amazon.com Inc. founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates, eclipsed Buffett Friday as Facebook shares climbed 2.4%, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. It’s the first time that the three wealthiest people on the ranking made their fortunes from technology. Zuckerberg, 34, is now worth $81.6 billion, about $373 million more than Buffett, the 87-year-old chairman and chief executive officer of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
Zuckerberg’s ascent has been driven by investors’ continued embrace of Facebook, the social-network giant that shook off the fallout from a data-privacy crisis that hammered its shares, sending them to an eight-month low of $152.22 on March 27. The stock closed Friday at a record $203.23.

The BCCC is an independent self-regulatory body set up by the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) to look into complaints pertaining to all non-news general entertainment channels in India.

Former Meghalaya Governor & Senior Congress leader M M Jacob (90-years) passed away due to age-related ailments. Mr. Jacob also served as deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha in the 80s.
The famous Kumaoni folk singer Kabutari Devi (70-years) passed away in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Devi’s songs depicted the struggles in the life of Pahari women. The folk singer has received several honours, which includes the Ministry of Culture, Government of Uttarakhand for her outstanding contribution which echoed the sound of Kumaon hills.

Actor Kavi Kumar Azaad, known for playing the character of Dr Hansraaj Hathi on popular sitcom “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma”, passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest. Azaad replaced actor Nirmal Soni as Dr Hathi, who played the role for a year since the show's inception, in 2009.
