India's second moon mission Chandrayaan-2 will now be launched in the January-March window in 2019 instead of later this year as the design was changed to enable it land on the lunar surface, a top ISRO official said here today. We have planned to launch Chandrayaan mission in January 3. He was speaking on the sidelines of a function, where bust of Dr Vikram Sarabhai, the architect of the Indian space mission, was unveiled. Asked why the weight of Chandrayaan-2 was increased by 600 kg, he said ISRO noticed during experiments that after the moon lander was ejected, the satellite would shake. So they decided that the design modification was required for landing and mass has to be increased.
- India is the second lunar exploration campaign after Chandrayaan-1
- Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has developed.
- The campaign is planned to be launched by the GSLV Mark 3 launch vehicle

- India plans to launch Chandrayaan-2 in 2019
According to ISRO, this campaign will also use new technologies and test as
well as new experiments.
Wheeled rover will run on the surface of the Moon and on the same site, collect clay or rock samples for analysis. The data will be sent to Earth through Chandrayaan-2 orbiter.
The team successfully implementing the Chandrayaan-1 campaign under the leadership of Miles Swami Annadurai is also working on Chandrayaan-2.
